List every IRA, 401(k), 403(b) and inherited account. Rmdtally works out each 2026 required minimum distribution with the IRS tables, groups them the way the IRS lets you combine them, counts your withdrawals and QCDs, and shows what is still due. It runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

How it works

  1. List your accounts in the template (or any CSV or Excel sheet) with each December 31, 2025 balance from your year-end statements, and drop it here — or try the sample.
  2. Type your birth year, then read each account's 2026 RMD, what's still to take per group and every check.
  3. Compare with your custodians' figures and take what's left before December 31.

Why Rmdtally

For retirees and the people who help them, with IRAs and old 401(k)s at several custodians, who want one worksheet of every 2026 required minimum distribution before December 31 — without a subscription or uploading their balances.

Every account in one list

A CSV or Excel list: account, type and the December 31, 2025 balance from each year-end statement, plus what you've taken so far. IRAs, SEP and SIMPLE IRAs, Roths, 401(k), 403(b), 457(b) and inherited accounts.

The IRS divisor for each

Uniform Lifetime for your own accounts, Single Life for inherited ones, the 10-year rule for heirs since 2020, the age 73/75 start and the still-working exception — the tables from IRS Pub. 590-B are built in.

Where you can take it from

IRA RMDs can come from any of your IRAs and 403(b) RMDs from any 403(b); each 401(k) or 457(b) pays its own. Rmdtally groups them so you see what is left per group.

QCDs counted right

Qualified charitable distributions count toward IRA RMDs only, up to $111,000 in 2026. A QCD typed on a 401(k) is flagged, not counted.

Checks before December 31

What's still to take and the 25% excise if you miss it, your first-year April 1 option, duplicate rows, missing balances, Roth accounts with no RMD and inherited accounts that must be emptied soon.

FAQ

What does Rmdtally do?

It reads a list of your retirement accounts and works out each one's 2026 required minimum distribution with the IRS life-expectancy tables, groups them the way the IRS lets you combine them, subtracts what you've taken and your QCDs, and shows what's still due by December 31, 2026.

Which accounts have RMDs?

Traditional, rollover, SEP and SIMPLE IRAs, 401(k), 403(b), 457(b) and other employer plans once you reach your RMD age (73 if born 1951–1959, 75 if born 1960 or later), and most inherited accounts. Roth IRAs have none for the owner, and Roth 401(k)/403(b) accounts have none from 2024.

Is my data uploaded?

No. Your files are read by JavaScript in your browser tab and never sent to us or anyone else. Accounts and balances aren't stored, so closing the tab clears them. Settings can be saved in this browser.

What's free?

Importing any number of accounts, the 2026 RMD total, the groups, what's still to take, every check, the first 5 accounts and the first 3 years of the estimate on screen and in print (with a footer). Pro shows and prints everything and exports the Excel workbook and both CSVs.

How is the RMD worked out?

December 31, 2025 balance ÷ the divisor for your age in 2026 from the Uniform Lifetime table (Pub. 590-B Table III). Inherited accounts use the Single Life table (Table I) for the beneficiary's age in the year after death, minus one for each year since, or the 10-year rule. If the owner died in 2026 after starting RMDs, whatever part of the owner's 2026 RMD they had not taken must still come out by December 31 (Pub. 590-B).

What isn't covered?

The Joint and Last Survivor table (spouse more than 10 years younger and sole beneficiary), annuitized accounts, 403(b) pre-1987 balances, trusts as beneficiaries and state taxes. Your custodian's figure and a tax professional come first.

Is this tax advice?

No. Rmdtally applies the IRS tables it describes to the numbers you provide. It is a worksheet to check against your custodians' figures.
